While working as a bodyguard for US contractors in Iraq, a car bomb exploded outside Hayder Abdulwahab's home. When Hayder regained consciousness he found he was blind and left for dead in a Baghdad morgue. From there his life began a new path as a refugee, relocated to Tampa, Florida. Still blind (though slowly regaining some sight through a series of operations) and with long-term injuries from the blast Hayder is working to build a new future and care for his family.
